This coming weekend, May 17 and 18, is the Nevada Yacht Club’s annual short-handed weekend.
On Saturday, we’ll do the Jack and Jill race. One man, one woman, one sailboat. Let’s see how these couples really communicate! Here’s the Notice of Race. The skipper’s meeting is at 9:45am for this event because…
We’ll hold our second Learn to Race clinic at 9am on Lake Mead Marina patio. This time the topic is upwind tactics. It’s an informal, FREE chalk-talk where you’ll learn that even minor adjustments can mean boatlengths gained or lost on the race course.
On Sunday, it’s the Single-Handed Race. Get those autopilots and tiller tamers ready. Here’s that Notice of Race. The skippers meeting is 9am and 1st signal is at 10:30.
As we said at the skippers meeting, the Leukemia Cup may be a thing of the past, but the weather didn’t care.
The Nevada Yacht Club had Leukemia Cup-type winds for its first annual SILVER Cup regatta! Saturday saw gusts over 25 mph, mixed in with periods of less than 10 mph. Sunday was more reasonable.
13 boats turned out for the event. Sea Lark won in PHRF B, Oski took the honors in PHRF A, and Bombardier won a highly-competitive, 7-boat Spinnaker fleet.

There’s nothing quite like slicing along through the water with nothing but the sound of the wind and the waves.
Come learn how to sail with the Nevada Yacht Club! The first of our twice yearly Sail Training classes is coming up this weekend, April 5th and 6th. For only $30 per person, you’ll get classroom and on-the-water training on the points of sail, boating safety, sail trim and much more.
The first long-distance race of 2008 is in the books! Despite the holiday weekend, nine boats turned out for the Echo Bay Regatta.
Nice winds on Saturday and the first part of Sunday allowed the A and B fleet to log three races. Steve Smith on Winsornaut won the A fleet, while John Longhurst won in the B fleet.
The J/105 Bombardier was too much for the Spinnaker Fleet, which sailed point to point including through the challenging Narrows. Check out the results here.
After an unusual situation involving a certain dog, some destroyed race results, and some understanding skippers, the 2008 Winter Series is now in the books.
Here is the culprit.
And here are the results! As you will see, the results for races 4, 5, and 6, especially the Spinnaker fleet, were awarded on redress. If you’re curious, redress is covered in the Racing Rules under rule 62 and Appendix A10.
Thanks to all competitors for some great racing in challenging wind conditions.
